Tourism Industry Hit Hard
More than 800 foreign tourists are among those missing, including trekkers and climbers who were in the Langtang and Rasuwa regions when the floods struck. The Langtang Valley is one of Nepal's most popular trekking destinations, known for its scenic mountain views and accessible trails. August is peak trekking season, and the disaster occurred during a busy weekend.
Some missing tourists have since made contact with authorities, according to Nepal's Department of Tourism. But communication infrastructure in affected areas remains down, and officials caution that many reports of missing persons may reflect lost contact rather than confirmed casualties.
