Elon Musk Becomes Largest Individual Donor With Dollar 366 Million in 2026 Election Spending

Tech billionaire allocates 66 million to Republican campaigns and PACs, with 58 million directed to Ken Paxton's Texas Senate race.

Elon Musk Becomes Largest Individual Donor With Dollar 366 Million in 2026 Election Spending

Elon Musk has emerged as the single largest individual donor in the 2026 midterm election cycle, allocating approximately $366 million to Republican campaigns and political organizations, according to Federal Election Commission documents analyzed by CNBC.

CNBC reported on October 16 that "Democrats outraise Republicans in key Congress races as Elon Musk funds Ken Paxton in Texas and GOP groups aligned with Trump." The tech billionaire's spending has focused heavily on the Texas Senate race where Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton is challenging incumbent Democrat James Talarico.

According to campaign finance filings reviewed by multiple news organizations, Musk directed at least $276 million since July to Republican organizations and America PAC, the political action committee he controls. Recent reports from Freedom Press indicate Musk funneled $158 million specifically into Paxton's Texas Senate campaign through intermediary groups.

Federal filings show Musk gave $75 million and $83 million to the Senate Leadership Fund in September 2026. That organization then transferred matching amounts to Texas PAC, which backs Paxton's Senate bid. The indirect routing of funds through multiple committees has drawn scrutiny from campaign finance watchdog groups.

An analysis by Romanian news outlet Informat, citing CNBC data, reported that Musk's total election spending reached $366 million as of October 24. News aggregator Meaww reported eight hours ago that the figure has since climbed to $445 million, though this higher amount has not yet been independently verified through FEC documents.

The massive spending represents a revival of Musk's 2024 election playbook, where he bankrolled Republican campaigns through America PAC and aligned organizations. His 2026 investments have made him by far the largest individual contributor to congressional races this cycle.

Campaign finance experts note that while individual donors can give unlimited amounts to super PACs under current law, the concentration of such massive spending from a single source raises questions about the influence of wealthy individuals in American politics.

Despite Musk's substantial financial backing, polling in the Texas Senate race remains competitive. CNBC noted that Democrats have outraised Republicans in several key congressional contests nationwide, suggesting that financial advantages do not guarantee electoral success.
